What Is Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate, in short, is basically a platform that enables people to earn money online through a method known as affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing simply involves you promoting products or services on the behalf of companies such as Amazon & getting paid commissions on any successful sales.

It’s a pretty popular method of making money & as a result, nowadays nearly every single company that has an online presence also has an affiliate program (meaning you can promote their products for money).

As an example, here’s a screenshot of Amazon’s own affiliate program (named Amazon Associates):

Amazon Associates Example

As you can see from the screenshot above they title their program “Profit from Amazon” and state that you can earn up to a whopping 12% in commissions by promoting their stuff.

All you need to do is simply send people to their website via a special link (known as an affiliate link) & if they happen to purchase something, you get paid.

Simple, right?

And this is exactly what Wealthy Affiliate is designed to help you do.

Wealthy Affiliate is a platform that provides the tools, training & support to show you how you can find the most lucrative affiliate programs & most importantly, how to effectively promote your links.

Basically, it provides you with everything you need to become a successful affiliate marketer.

How Does Wealthy Affiliate Work?

Wealthy Affiliate provides you with a step-by-step training program (that has a mixture of written & video training) which helps you to begin making money from affiliate marketing.

You see, as mentioned in the previous section of this Wealthy Affiliate review, the process of affiliate marketing itself is actually relatively simple.

You promote a product or service, then if somebody purchases it, you get paid.

But whether or not you actually find success with affiliate marketing depends on how effectively you promote your affiliate links, and that’s the main thing Wealthy Affiliate helps with.

Wealthy Affiliate puts a primary focus on teaching you how you can leverage search engines (such as Google) to get unlimited amounts of people buying things through your links, every single day.

It’s a method known as “search engine optimisation” & not only is it extremely powerful, but it’s also pretty simple & best of all, it’s also completely free to do.

You see, when you create a piece of content online, search engines like Google, Yahoo & Bing discover it automatically & then list it within their results for people to click on.

So as an example, if you were interested in cycling & created a page outlining what you believed to be the best cycling backpacks for commuting, Google would discover it & list it within its results whenever somebody searched for something related to it.

Here’s an example:

Google Cycling Search Results Example

As you can see, somebody has created a page outlining what they believe to be the 15 best backpacks.

Now whenever somebody searches for something related to cycling bags for commuting that post will be shown to them in the results as an option for them to click on.

This means that visitors will start coming to the page, and most importantly this gives the person who created the page the opportunity to promote something to them as an affiliate.

And that’s exactly what the creator of that page has done.

Take a look:

Cycling Backpacks Affiliate Link Example

As you can see from the screenshot above, next to each of the backpacks listed on that page the creator has added an affiliate link which takes the visitor to the product page on Amazon.

This means that if a visitor clicks on that link & purchases something, the creator of that page will get paid a commission.

And the best part is that the creator of that page will still get paid a commission even if the person that clicks on the link happens to purchase something different altogether.

So from a small one-time effort of creating the page, the creator of it will now stand to earn commissions (potentially every single day) for many years to come.

And there’s absolutely no limit to the amount of these types of pages that you can create… In fact, you’re actively encouraged to create as many as you like.

The more of them you make, the more money you stand to earn.

As a result, some wealthy affiliates find themselves earning as much as 5-figures per month.

Amazon Earnings Example

Some, even find themselves earning as much as 6-figures per month.

It’s pretty crazy stuff.

But what’s craziest is the fact that if you’re willing to put in the work that’s required to make it happen, then those kind of results aren’t actually unrealistic for you to achieve.

Anybody can do it, it just takes work.

How Do Affiliates Get Paid?

As an affiliate you have totally flexibility fo how you’d like to get paid, whether that be through bank transfer, PayPal, Paxum, Bitcoin or even getting sent a cheque in the mail.

You decide.

But what’s important to remember is that it’s not Wealthy Affiliate itself that pays you (unless you participate in their affiliate program, of course). The money you get sent comes from the companies that you’re affiliated with.

For example, if you’re promoting products from Amazon then it’ll be Amazon that pays you.

Or if you’re promoting services for Google then it’ll be Google that pays you.

And each company offers different payout methods, so if there’s a specific payment method you need to be paid by then it’s simply a case of choosing a company to affiliate with that pays via that method.

But there’s also nothing stopping from you from working with multiple companies at the same time. In fact, it’s pretty common for affiliates to receive payments from lots of different companies every month.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Legit?

Absolutely. Wealthy Affiliate teaches a method named affiliate marketing which simply involves you promoting products or services for companies online (including the big names such as Amazon).

Essentially, you’re basically just advertising for them & they’re paying you commissions for doing so in return.

It’s perfectly legitimate.

And as you can see from the statistics below, Wealthy Affiliate has actually been around for 15+ years & has over 1.4 million members from all around the world:

Wealthy Affiliate Statistics

Plus, on top of that, Wealthy Affiliate even gives you the opportunity to get started with their platform completely free of charge, without entering any payment details whatsoever.

All you need to do is create a free Starter account & you can check it out, 100% risk-free.

There are no catches & nothing that you have to remember to cancel in order to make sure you don’t get billed. Free truly means free & if you don’t like it, you can just sign back out.

The free Starter account at Wealthy Affiliate will give you access to the first 10 lessons, enable you to begin building your first pages & allow you to interact with the community.

That way you can check it out first-hand & determine whether or not it’s something you actually want to pursue, without having to risk any money upfront.

Then, if you decide you do indeed want to pursue it you can simply opt to upgrade to the Premium membership which gives you access to literally everything there is to offer.

There are no hidden extra costs or anything like that.

Who Is Wealthy Affiliate For?

Realistically, Wealthy Affiliate is designed for anybody that’s looking to earn real money online (rather than the little bit of “spare change” you get from doing the likes of paid surveys).

So if you’re new to affiliate marketing, yet to find success with affiliate marketing or simply looking to take your current affiliate marketing career to new heights, then Wealthy Affiliate will be a good fit for you.

And the great thing about Wealthy Affiliate is that it’s been designed with complete beginners in mind, so even if you’re brand new you’ll certainly still be able to find success.

You don’t need to be a “technical” by any means.

In fact, most of the people that join Wealthy Affiliate aren’t technical. They’re just average, everyday people that are interested in building a life that allows them to live on their own terms.

You see, the fantastic thing about affiliate marketing is that it can be done from absolutely anywhere, you can set your own hours & you can scale it up to earn as much as you like.

I mean sure, it certainly does take work, but it’s also definitely very flexible.

So if you’re somebody that’s interested in learning how you can earn money on your own terms (outside of working the traditional 9 to 5), then I’d 100% say Wealthy Affiliate would be for you.

Wealthy Affiliate Pricing

As I mentioned further up in this Wealthy Affiliate, you can actually join Wealthy Affiliate completely free of charge by creating what they refer to as a free Starter account.

The free Starter account will give you access to the first 10 lessons, it’ll enable you to begin building your first website & it’ll give you full access to the community.

Basically, it’ll let you check Wealthy Affiliate out first-hand.

And there are absolutely no payment details required whatsoever to create your free Starter account, meaning it’s totally risk-free & there are no “trials” that you need to remember to cancel.

You can go in, check it out and if you don’t like it, simply sign back out.

But if you do like it & decide that you wish to continue with the training then you can opt to upgrade to the Premium membership which gives you access to absolutely everything.

The important thing to note is that there are NO upsells or hidden costs after you’re Premium.

So I know what you’ll be thinking… It’ll be expensive, right?

Wrong.

The Wealthy Affiliate Premium membership actually costs just $49 per month, and to bring that cost down even further you can pay for a year upfront which bags you a huge discount.

Paying for the year gets you 2 months free (plus a free .com domain) AND other benefits.

That small cost includes literally all of the training, tools & support…

Everything.

There’s no doubt about it, Wealthy Affiliate offers massive for money… But even still, there’s simply no need to dive in with both feet because you can still check it out for free, first.

Wealthy Affiliate Success Stories

As you’ll probably agree, it doesn’t really matter what people say about Wealthy Affiliate in their Wealthy Affiliate reviews. What matters is whether or not the people joining are actually finding success.

And guess what?

They are. They’re achieving massive success.

Wealthy Affiliate Success Post 1

Wealthy Affiliate Success Post 2

Wealthy Affiliate Success Post 3

In fact, there are actually thousands of success stories inside of Wealthy Affiliate. More importantly, however, is that they are real, genuine & verifiable success stories.

Not just “testimonials”.

So to give you an idea of what sort of things people are achieving after joining Wealthy Affiliate I’ve included a handful of some of the Wealthy Affiliate success stories below:

(and you can feel free to click on them to verify they’re “legit”)

And as I say, those are just a handful of the many.

Plus, one of the members (Jerry) even tracked how his income grew over a period of time after joining Wealthy Affiliate.

You can see the chart below:

Wealthy Affiliate Income Growth Over Time
(source: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jerryhuang/blog/a-very-important-message-for-all-beginners)

In the beginning, it appears like not a great deal is happening as he is initially going through the training, but then you can see that from month 3 onward his income just begins to skyrocket.

After 6 months he found himself earning over $2,000 per month & by month 10 he was earning over $6,000 per month.

Not bad at all, especially since prior to joining Wealthy Affiliate Jerry was simply working cleaning dishes in a restaurant & had no previous experience with affiliate marketing whatsoever.

Jerry Working In The Kitchen
(source: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jerryhuang/blog/a-very-important-message-for-all-beginners)

Truly amazing stuff.

But the reason I’m sharing Jerry’s story is because I know with 100% confidence that if he can do it, and that if I can do it, that you reading this Wealthy Affiliate review right now can do it too.

In fact, you could be the next success story that I add to the list above.

Wealthy Affiliate Complaints

I’ve said a lot of good things about Wealthy Affiliate in this review & there are a lot of other Wealthy Affiliate reviews that say nothing but good things about it too.

But is everything really good at Wealthy Affiliate?

In my opinion, no not everything is – and if I told you it was I’d be lying.

But lying isn’t something I’m interested in doing because the intention is for this review to be a brutally honest Wealthy Affiliate review that uncovers everything, including the complaints.

I want to give you the full picture.

So yes, the truth is I do actually have some Wealthy Affiliate complaints.

Here they are:

1. Rank Chasers

Wealthy Affiliate has an internal ranking system which gives each of the members a ranking number that adjusts based on things like how helpful they are, how active they are, etc.

The ranks don’t mean anything with regards to your business or have any monetary value, but it makes engaging with the community a little more fun because the more you engage, the higher you move up.

It’s almost like moving up through the leaderboards on a videogame.

Here’s an example of how it looks:

Wealthy Affiliate Ranks

The problem?

Even though in reality, the ranks offer nothing (other than maybe a little ego-boost), some people still get totally obsessed with them… So much so that they try to “game the system”.

They think that the more active they are & the more comments they leave inside of Wealthy Affiliate, the higher that they’ll move up through the ranks.

As a result, they start leaving comments on pretty much anything & everything, often adding little value, if any value at all.

So you may find yourself asking a question inside of Wealthy Affiliate only for a “rank chaser” to leave a comment on it saying something such as “I don’t know the answer, really wish I did“.

Here’s an example of what I mean:

Wealthy Affiliate Question Response

At first, it may not seem too annoying… But when you turn email notifications on to watch for answers to your questions it can be pretty annoying to log in just to find another useless comment.

And it also leads on to my second Wealthy Affiliate complaint…

2. Bad Advice

Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of affiliate marketing experts inside of Wealthy Affiliate & there is also a lot of good advice offered through the community too.

But, because of the “rank chasers” I mentioned above, there is also a lot of bad advice too. I’ve seen it first hand.

For some reason, because of the internal ranking system, people often answer questions in an attempt to simply gain rank, often even if they know nothing about the subject being asked.

That gets me pretty frustrated too.

I mean, thankfully the upside is that because the Wealthy Affiliate community is so large, usually, the bad advice given out is quickly corrected by somebody else… But it’s frustrating that it happens in the first place.

Bad advice could potentially be detrimental to somebody’s business, so my take is that if you don’t know, you should simply just leave the answering to somebody that does.

The Bottom Line

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re looking to get started with affiliate marketing or if you’ve tried it in the past but not yet found success, you absolutely need to try Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate, in my opinion, is hands-down the best place to get started.

I mean yes, there are indeed many other places that you go to in order to learn affiliate marketing, but I’ve never seen a single platform that offers anywhere near the value that Wealthy Affiliate does.

Certainly not for the price.

Most of the other affiliate marketing training programs out there either charge ridiculous amounts (often into thousands of dollars) or they simply leave you to find out that they don’t actually provide the full package & that you need to buy other stuff, too.

Or worse, some of them do both. They cost thousands AND still leave you to find out that they don’t actually provide the full package & that you need to spend even more.

Thankfully, however, Wealthy Affiliate doesn’t.

At Wealthy Affiliate, you get provided with literally everything you could ever need to see success from affiliate marketing, which includes the training, tools, support & even mentorship.

And most importantly, Wealthy Affiliate is honest, open & transparent.

Plus, as I mentioned further up in this Wealthy Affiliate review, you can even get started with Wealthy Affiliate completely free of charge by creating a free Starter account.

You don’t need to enter any payment details, meaning there’s absolutely no risk whatsoever.

So I’d highly recommend that you at very least, check it out.

A Free Fast-Track Bonus For You

If you’re interested in getting started with affiliate marketing, then you probably want to get started (and begin earning) as quickly as you possibly can, right?

It’s human nature.

And the good news is that I’m here to help you with that.

You see, I’m actually a participant in Wealthy Affiliate‘s referral program, which means if you sign up via my link & go Premium, then at absolutely no additional cost to you, I’ll earn a commission.

So here’s the deal. If you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.

If you join Wealthy Affiliate via my link & upgrade to Premium, I’ll offer you my personal 1-on-1 mentorship to help you get the ball rolling as quickly as you possibly can.

I mean, of course, I’m not promising that you’ll get rich overnight or anything silly like that, but I’ll show you how to leverage the tricks that I’ve learned so that you can fast-track your success.

I’ll also show you how to avoid the common pitfalls, too.

But I know what you’re probably thinking… How can you be sure I’m the “real deal”?

How do you know that I’ve actually had success and that I can help you replicate that same success for yourself?

Well, one thing I haven’t mentioned up until now is that I’m actually what’s known as a Super Affiliate.

I’m one of under 50 people worldwide that has been recognized as a Super Affiliate by Wealthy Affiliate & flown out to Las Vegas to a private conference to meet with the owners.

You’ll see a picture of me (in the middle) with Kyle (right) and Carson (left) below:

Wealthy Affiliate Super Affiliate Conference

So if you’re interested in having me help YOU to get your brand new online business off to a flying start, or to help you take your current one to new heights, all you need to do is join Wealthy Affiliate via my link.

I’ll keep an eye out for you joining & once I see you come inside I’ll reach out & leave a message on your profile outlining the next steps to help you get started.

Wealthy Affiliate FAQ

Hopefully, the majority of your questions were covered in my Wealthy Affiliate review above, but just in case you still have some additional ones I’ve decided to put together this little FAQ covering the most common things I get asked.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Free?

You can certainly get started with Wealthy Affiliate for free by creating a free Starter account but in order to get full access to the platform & all it has to offer you’ll ultimately need to upgrade to the Premium membership which costs just $49/month (or less if you pay for a full year upfront).

Can You Really Make Money With Wealthy Affiliate?

Yes, absolutely. There are several ways that you can make money with Wealthy Affiliate. You can make money by completing small tasks inside of the platform (such as leaving comments on peoples websites or creating training) and you can earn money by promoting products or services as an affiliate. You can also earn money by referring others to Wealthy Affiliate, too.

Is Wealthy Affiliate MLM?

No (thankfully), Wealthy Affiliate is not an MLM. Wealthy Affiliate does indeed have an affiliate program through which you can earn money by referring others, but it simply pays out commissions for direct referrals, as opposed to operating over multiple levels.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Worth The Money?

Yes, in my opinion, Wealthy Affiliate is definitely worth the money. The Premium membership provides you with access to everything inside of the platform which includes the tools, training & support. Plus the Wealthy Affiliate web-hosting platform (included in the membership) is actually one of the best hosting platforms in the market.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Outdated?

Wealthy Affiliate has different types of training. There is what’s known as the “core training” which is produced by the Wealthy Affiliate owners & this is regularly kept to up to date. Then, alongside that there is also additional training, much of which is created by members and some of this can be outdated. The actual method itself that’s taught by Wealthy Affiliate, however, still works to this very date & will continue to work just as well for many years to come.

Who Owns Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate is owned by 2 Canadian guys named Kyle Loudon & Carson Lim. They introduce themselves to you throughout the training & they are also active on Instagram. Kyle’s Instagram page can be found here, and Carson’s here.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a Pyramid Scheme?

Absolutely not. Wealthy Affiliate does have an affiliate program through which you can refer new members & earn money, but unlike a pyramid scheme which involves money being passed across multiple levels without any genuine product in place, Wealthy Affiliate‘s affiliate program only pays out commissions on 1 level (for direct referrals) & offers a clear, genuine product.

Does Wealthy Affiliate Really Work?

Whilst Wealthy Affiliate won’t make money “for you”, if you actually take action on the training & put in the work then you could certainly find yourself generating a handsome income, for sure. As mentioned further up in this Wealthy Affiliate review, the platform boasts literally thousands of success stories.

How Can You Cancel Your Wealthy Affiliate Membership?

Cancelling your Wealthy Affiliate membership is really easy & can be done with just 1-click from within your account settings. There are absolutely no ties or contracts & upon cancelling your billing stops immediately (but you can still access your membership until your next payment becomes due).

How Much Can Amazon Affiliates Make?

There’s absolutely no limit to the amount Amazon affiliates make, it’s simply a case of the harder they work, the more money they can make. As an affiliate, you’re in full control of your income (and it’s not uncommon to see affiliates earning upwards of 5-figures per month).

How Long Does It Take To Make Money With Wealthy Affiliate?

Obviously there’s no “one size fits all” answer to this question since it depends on how much time you spend at it, but 3-6 months is generally a good goal to set before expecting to see your first commissions (even though some people do earn money much sooner than that). The good news is that it works like a snowball effect, meaning that once your income begins to grow, it’s growth typically tends to speed up so things can scale up pretty quickly once you’ve gained the initial momentum.

Here’s an example of a real Wealthy Affiliate member’s income tracked from month 1 to month 10 to give you an idea of what’s possible if you actually put in the work:

  1. Thanks for sharing this great review! My main concern is deciding what kind of business to grow. I do not currently have any business ideas. I guess it would make sense to promote brands, but I guess I’m just confused on how that works. Would you be able to provide more details? Thanks!

    • Hi Katlyn thanks for the comment – and don’t worry, that’s actually most people’s biggest concern when starting out so you’re not alone… The truth is though the training over at Wealthy Affiliate is put together in a step-by-step format & it touches on that exact thing so as you progress through it the ideas will come naturally as part of the process. I suggest you simply sign up for the free membership & begin going through the lessons to get a better idea of what I mean. ?

  2. Can you do this business from your cell phone if you don’t have a laptop.
How often you get paid ? I am 66 years old and do I need to have a lot of computer skills to make money fast? I do know how to search, send emails . I am very interested.

    Reply
    • Technically yes you could do it from a cellphone, but IMO it would be very impractical. I like to use a computer or laptop. Furthermore at 68 years of age I would have hoped that you’d have known there is no such thing as “fast money”. If there was, everybody would be rich. The only way to make money “quickly” is to sell some things you no longer need. This is a program that’s designed to help people either build extra income alongside their jobs, or to build a full-time income working on their own terms. It is not a way to “make money fast”, there is no such thing – those promising that are called scams.

  6. Hi Dale, I hope you are well…

    How does it work?

Like I make a Blog or informational website, pick the affiliates I would like on my site(s), put them on site in appropriate sections, figure out how to get it to hit the top 5 in search engines searches, do that procedure daily or a few times a day, put new stuff on site and/ blog and then people will start using the links to affiliates from my page? oh and I need to figure out how to drive people to the sites??

Am I sorta getting the gist?

  8. Hi Dale, I read your review of WA and got super-excited. I went over to the site to begin exploring and found that my registration was blocked. Iโ€™m a British citizen, living and working in Nigeria for almost 10 years, and Iโ€™m looking to build an online income so that I can explore other parts of the world. It seems unfair that Iโ€™m blocked by virtue of being in my current location. Help!

    Reply
    • Hi Michael. Personally I believe everybody in Nigeria should be allowed access, not just British citizens. I think it is more unfair to request to be treated differently because of your citizenship. Unfortunately, however, at this moment in time (25/07/2020) the platform simply cannot support memberships from the country Nigeria. Over the years Wealthy Affiliate has opened up to many new countries & in the future, Nigeria may indeed be one of them (hopefully!). On top of that, I would like to point out that I am merely a member of Wealthy Affiliate – not the owner – and so whilst I would love to make the change, I do not have the powers. Do feel free to check out the alternatives.

For some reason, which I no longer remember, I canceled my membership not too long after I had joined. I suspect it was because I either didn’t see the possibility of making money from my chosen domain or because I just couldn’t get to grips building a website with WordPress.

I’ve tried several times in the past to make money online, but it was always a failure.
Part of the problem for me is the amount of money one needs to put in before you start seeing results. One of the people in your article above (MarlaineB) took about 18 months before earning $100 per month. In those 18 months she would have paid over $800 in WA membership fees!
My biggest concerns are (1) being able to select a niche that is interesting to me AND has the ability to make $; and (2) whether I’d be able to build a site in WordPrees (I abandoned my 2 previous attempts because I simply couldn’t get it done)

    • But, where else could you turn $800 into a $1,200 yearly recurring income? An income which has the potential to be scaled infinitely? Anybody can do this, I firmly believe that… It’s simply a case of being able to focus on the long-term vision. And I’ve never had a single referral join who has not been able to successfully build their website. The instructions are laid out literally step-by-step & even have videos showing you exactly what to do. Providing you’re willing to follow them (and stick with them), you WILL be able to see success. I am 100% confident in that.

  14. On average how much time should a person put per week to be successful you would say? I currently work 50-60 hrs a week, Single mom with 3 kids and I am extremely interested

    • There is no “average time per week to see success”, it’s simply a case of the more effort you put in, the sooner things will likely happen. Even if you can only work on your business for 30 minutes each night, it’s better than doing nothing at all.

  15. Hello Dale,

Thank you for spending time to explain how affiliate marketing works and I am deeply interested in starting small and growing. A quick question though. Do I have to advertise other products on FB and other social media sites to be successful? I’m not much of a FB person and just wondering if it is a requirement for success.

    • You’re welcome Tom, and with regards to your question – absolutely not. I’m personally quite against social media, so I try to avoid any time there whatsoever. You can 100% build a business without involving yourself with it.

      • Hello Dale and thanks for your response. What about getting traffic? I read somewhere that one needs to pay a ton for quality traffic before making anything worthwhile as an affiliate marketer. Is this true? If yes, how can WA help people like me with very little capital?

        • I would never, ever advise a newcomer to pay for traffic. WA teaches the free methods of obtaining traffic, which are the exact same methods I leverage myself. Be sure to sign up & check it out first-hand for yourself – it’s free to join.

  16. Now this may sound like a dumb question, but the only way to get answers is too ask right.
But my question is that is there a limit to how long you can use the free access thing or is like a like free trial type where you get this amount of weeks/days/months free before you have to actually pay for a premium? Because my currency isn’t in dollars so it looks cheaper for people who use dollars but our currency here is in South African Rands and its actually like R800 a for me so I just wanted to know about the time limit and stuff.
I dont know if this made sense but I hope it did and thank you for this post and the one on the 1G one because I was about to actually sign up fo them lucky I did my research first.thank you again

    • The only silly question is a question not asked, in my opinion. ๐Ÿ™‚

The good news is that there’s no limit to how long you can remain a free member.
